Door Manufacturer Hears Opportunity Knocking in Islip

Universal Door, a growing Brooklyn-based door manufacturer, has included Islip in their expansion plans, thanks in large part to our beautiful facilities, our skilled workforce, and our great incentive packages through our Office of Economic Development.

We worked with Universal Door, which will remain headquartered in Brooklyn, to negotiate the $4.4 million purchase of a 43,750-square-foot industrial building on three acres of grounds in Brentwood. The facility was originally owned by Michbi Doors, another door manufacturer, which is relocating to a 16,500-square-foot industrial building in Farmingdale.

A Sunny Future for Solar Farms in the Town of Islip

The Town of Islip has recently partnered with Massachusetts-based solar company Agilitas Energy to transform two closed landfills in Holbrook and Hauppauge into green energy solar facilities. It’s a move we believe will generate both clean power and increased income for our taxpayers.

We are thrilled about this “win-win” deal for Islip. Agilitas Energy has leased the underutilized properties for $120,000 a year and expects to generate over seven million kilowatts of electricity annually—enough to power over 5,000 homes. The electricity generated will be sold to PSEG Long Island, providing clean energy for residents, while reducing our carbon footprint.

Now Boarding: Nonstop Flights to Raleigh-Durham from MacArthur

In 2018, Long Island MacArthur Airport served 1.6 million passengers, and now, thanks to Frontier Airlines, that number looks to climb in 2019. Beginning April 30, the low-cost carrier will be operating nonstop flights to Raleigh-Durham, North Carolina out of our town-owned airport, and tickets are now on sale.

We’ve identified Raleigh-Durham as one of the most desired destinations for Long Island travelers, and we are thrilled to now offer convenient and affordable access to the city for those traveling there for business, to visit friends and family, or to attend the area’s major universities.

A Tasteful Ribbon Cutting Ceremony for Castella Imports

This January, local officials from the Town of Islip joined Town Supervisor Angie Carpenter at a ribbon-cutting ceremony to mark the opening of Castella Imports’ new headquarters. And there was good reason to celebrate.

We worked closely with the Mediterranean food and spice company to help orchestrate their move to a 75,000-square-foot facility in the Heartland Business complex in Edgewood. The company will next plan to expand their manufacturing capacity in their existing location in Hauppauge. By making a $2.5 million capital investment in the new Edgewood facility, Castella will receive a series of sales tax exemptions and will add 40 new jobs.
